The Smokies are beautiful! And I arrived on a gorgeous night. I am at Gatlinburg and Tara is at Peck's corner shelter tonight. It feels strange to be only a few miles from her after being off the trail for several days. But, I look forward to seeing her, if only for a moment, very soon. Tara is a hero to many people who know her, and that includes myself... So I know we all look forward to a new blog from her whenever she gets the chance. As for myself, I'm excited to get some new gear, test it out, and doing a little afternoon hike tomorrow before leaving town. I promise to try and keep everyone updated as much as possible....I can definitely appreciate the value of hearing one's voice after not having so for days. But obviously it is difficult to get signal out here. Love to everyone, keep sending that positive energy. Love you Eugene.

Joshua(Stewart) - I am glad to see this new post from you, and look forward to hearing how the knee held up on your first trial (guess I should say trail) run. I know making the decision to come off the trail was so difficult for you, and that you have been miserable these past few weeks, waiting for your knee to get stronger. I wish everything could have worked out as you guys had planned - that all had gone smoothly with no more hardships than a few blisters & hunger pains from time to time. But, unfortunately, everything hasn't gone as planned. You were barely into the hike when you realized your original plan was probably not going to work - at least not for you. At that point you could have given up, you could have gotten angry, you could have felt sorry for yourself, or made any number of other unproductive choices. You didn't do any of those things. You stayed positive, and from your first day off the trail, your single focus has been to return - as quickly as possible.
ReplyDeleteYou always understood that the satisfaction of achieving the goal is not dependent on the HOW, but simply on the DOING. The way one person accomplishes the goal may be completely different from the way you achieve it. This is true of everything in life. When things don't go as we want, or as we expect, we have to be able to adjust and be ready to move on to Plan B. And if Plan B doesn't work - we move to Plan C. The main thing is - you never give up, you keep DOING something that will eventually get you to where you want to be, and what you want to do.
Because you never give up, because you deal with adversity instead of running away from it, and because you have the biggest heart of anyone I know - YOU are MY hero!!
Take Care. Be Safe.
Positive thoughts coming your way.....
Love You.
